Administrative Option/Admin Dismiss
In this course, students will work on the development of skill used in debate events. Students will study Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, and Congressional Debate. As a part of the class, students are required to be on the Castle View Speech and Debate team, which means paying dues and attending some Friday and Saturday debate tournaments.

Literature of Film - 70745
In Literature of Film, students will go beyond just “watching” film and learn how to critically “read” it. Not only will students study the history of cinema from silent films to present day blockbusters, but will be required to examine various genres of film, directorial style and cinematic techniques and vocabulary (editing, mise-en-scene, lighting, sound, etc.). Viewing films outside of class will be required. This course, which will incorporate a college level text, is designed for students who want to seriously consider film as art that reflects social and historical conditions.

Peer Counseling I - 35400
This course provides students the opportunity to serve as a peer counselor and peer ambassador promoting positive school climate in the school. Students will learn active listening, stress relief and coping skills, mindfulness, and peer mediation along with other components of a dynamic peer leader program. Students will also have an opportunity for self exploration, learning more about how to support themselves as well as their peers. Peer Counseling allow students to serve as leaders to reduce conflict among their fellow students. Students may work individually or as part of a group to solve problems and promote mutual support among their peers.

Peer Internship - 40420
Students assist students with moderate or significant disabilities in the classroom setting. Peer Internship students will serve as peer tutors and/or teacher assistants for selected elective and academic classes. Candidates should have the desire to interact with and provide a positive role model for a wide variety of students with learning and emotional needs.

Professional Internship Experience - 55577
Senior Internship is the capstone of the academy experience. The class is designed to provide an opportunity for the student to learn from and network with professionals in the student's specific career area of interest through placement in an unpaid/paid internship based on the requirements of individual sites. As an intern, the student obtains a view of the work world and develops an understanding of the relationship between academic content and workplace performance. Relationships are developed with adults who model real world problem solving techniques and standards for excellence essential to career success. 120 hours must be documented to receive credit.

This course prepares students for the variety of speaking situations they will inevitably encounter in their academic and professional careers. This course provides support for students with an Individualized Education Plan who need extra time and assistance to meet the daily requirements of their classes. School Success - 40501
Success Lab is a class designed to facilitate a smooth freshman transition or provide an opportunity for upperclassmen to re-focus on school. Success Success is a time for students to complete work for classes, study for tests and improve their skill set through 20-30 minute mini lessons. Students are expected to be active learners and participants. Tutors are available for students needing extra help.

Student Aide - 48001
The student receives .25 credits per aide position per quarter and cannot accumulate more than 1.0 credit of student aide credit towards graduation. Student aides will receive a “P” for passing or an “F” for unsatisfactory work on the report card. A confidentiality agreement is signed by the aide. The grade is not calculated in the student's grade point average. Students can aide in counseling, main office, library, with a teacher, or as a computer technology aide. Application and prior approval must be obtained before the student can sign up for the class.

Student Government - 35450
Students will explore concepts of leadership and develop leadership skills, techniques and strategies through school activities which promote school spirit and community service. The development of the culture, climate and traditions of Castle View High School and the planning of homecoming, dances, pep rallies and charity events will comprise the bulk of the projects during the year. Teamwork is an integral part of the class. An application and teacher approval are required for enrollment.
