Theatre Dance

This course offers the opportunity for a variety of performance experiences, which may include the following: scene work, monologues, stage combat, improvisation and pantomime. Major emphasis of the class is on developing beginning acting skills and self-esteem. Students are required to take Theatre I and Theatre II in consecutive semesters.

As a continuation of Theatre I, this course extends development of acting skills and self-esteem. Course work may include the following: scene work, monologues, improvisation, play and character analysis, auditioning, musical theatre, and Shakespeare. Participation in play production is encouraged. Students are required to take Theatre I and Theatre II in consecutive semesters.

This advanced course continues the development of higher level of acting skills. Course work may include the following: audition techniques, improv, proper warmups, Shakespeare, music theatre, play and character analysis, stage combat, and advanced acting techniques. Students may also get opportunities to explore directing. Participation in play production is encouraged. This is an audition only class.  It is required that students take Theatre III and Theatre IV in consecutive semesters.

This year-long, audition course is for the most advanced theatre students. Students will develop advanced production techniques. Students may be required to participate in the productions.  Audition Only Class.  It is required that students take Theatre III and Theatre IV in consecutive semesters.

Introduces methods of constructing and painting scenery and properties, operating stage lighting and sound equipment, and implementing costumes and multimedia. This course explores the proper procedures of serving on stage crews.

Emphasizes two- and three-dimensional drawing and designs and color theory. Students construct 3-D models and a theatrical stage set.  Additionally, students will design costumes, lighting, sound, and stage management.

Prerequisite: Audition and/or application. This audition-only course is for the advanced theatre student. Students will develop advanced production techniques. Play production is the core of this class. Students will design, build, direct, write, act in plays that will be performed in the community.  Students are required to participate in the productions.

This course is designed to teach the basics of a wide variety of stage movement utilized in performance situations. Ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance will be the focus of the semester. Students will be required to dress clothing appropriate for movement and participate in warm-ups and are required to choreograph their own piece at the end of each unit.

This course is designed for the intermediate level dance student to learn a variety of dance movements and choreographic techniques that are utilized in performance situations. Course work will include the following: study of choreographers and choreography from Broadway musicals, video reconstruction, improvisational techniques, jazz, tap, modern and ballet techniques. Students will be required to dress clothing appropriate for movement and participate in warm-ups and the execution of dance steps given in each unit.

This class is for students who have a strong dance background. The dance units will include advanced dance techniques in ballet, lyrical and jazz. Students will have the opportunity to study professional dance choreography and techniques, to choreograph their own dances and explore various dance careers available.  This course also includes the study of dance kinesiology.
