German

German I focuses on the key areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in German, as well as the culture in German-speaking countries. Each lesson introduces new vocabulary and grammar concepts through listening comprehension, speaking, and writing activities. Simple grammatical structures (present tense) are practiced in innovative and interesting ways with a variety of learning styles in mind. The course has been aligned to meet all state standards.

German II is a continuation of the introduction to the German language and German-speaking communities focusing on listening, speaking, writing and reading. The main goal of this course is for students to develop, on a daily basis, receptive and productive skills that will allow them to communicate efficiently in German. Vocabulary and grammatical (past tense) structures will be more complex.

German III continues German I & II in the development of increased functional proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing the German language. The main goal of this course is for students to develop, on a daily basis, receptive and productive skills that will allow them to communicate efficiently in German. Vocabulary and grammatical structures (all other tenses and mood) will be increasingly complex.

German IV continues German Language I, II, and III in the development of increased functional proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing the German language. During class time, students should expect to engage in group and pair work, and to actively participate in class. The AP German Language course has been designed to prepare students for the AP Exam. The course is designed around the 6 themes: Global Challenges, Science and Technology, Contemporary Life, Personal and Public Identities, Beauty and Aesthetics, and Families and Communities. Students will be assessed in a variety of ways that are focused on Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational modes of communication. This course is conducted almost entirely in German and students are expected to communicate in German.
