Long Range Planning Committee Looking for Members!

The Long Range Planning Committee is currently accepting applications for members. This citizen-based group keeps close track of new housing developments and student enrollment trends in order to provide the Douglas County Board of Education with feedback regarding District facility and capacity needs. If you reside within the Douglas County School District and are interested in serving on this important committee please complete and submit the LRPC Application for Membership. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis or until all positions are filled.

Douglas County School District’s Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) was established in 1983 as an advisory body to the Board of Education. The charge of the LRPC is to continually analyze population trend data, to evaluate population impacts on District education mission and support facilities, to collect community feedback, and to recommend appropriate actions to the Board of Education regarding school attendance boundaries, facility usage (including new construction, renovation and/or closure) and anticipated capital outlay requirements. Additionally, LRPC members assist in assessing site feasibility for proposed uses by evaluating community impact and making recommendations on how sites should be used. Finally, LRPC members help to create, review, and present DCSD’s annual Master Capital Plan which contains recommendations for projects that may be needed in the next five years. The Master Capital Plan helps support the Board of Education in determining projects for current and future bond elections. The LRPC plays a valuable role in serving as a liaison between the community and the Board of Education.

Meetings are usually held the first Wednesday of each month with additional subcommittee meetings as needed. Additional public meetings are occasionally held to review specific projects or policy changes with impacted stakeholders.

**Please be aware that if LRPC members apply to do work for DCSD (either by a solicitation, responding to an RFQ or RFP, etc.), then they may be asked to resign from the LRPC.

Complaints regarding violations of Title VI, (race, national origin), Title IX (sex, gender), Section 504/ADA (handicap or disability), may be filed directly with the Office for Civil Rights, U.S. Department of Education, 1244 North Speer Blvd., Suite 310, Denver, CO 80204. Complaints regarding violations of Title VII (employment) and the ADEA (prohibiting age discrimination in employment) may be filed directly with the Federal Office of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, 303 E. 17th Ave., Suite 510, Denver, CO 80202, or the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, 1560 Broadway, Suite 1050, Denver, CO 80202.

NOTICE OF DESTRUCTION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION RECORDS

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016. These records will be destroyed in accordance with state law unless the parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student notifies the school district otherwise. After five years, the records are no longer useful to the district, but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for social security benefits, rehabilitation services, college entrance, etc. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records by requesting the records at this link ( Douglas County School District Transcripts and Records Requests ).
