Leave of Absence and Disability

Leave of Absence
The District offers employees Leaves of Absence for time away from work to cover extenuating circumstances in an employee's life. Employees that expect to be out 10 or more consecutive work days, will need to contact the Coordinators-ADA and Leaves to discuss further action.

Douglas County School District offers short term disability through Standard Insurance (if eligibility requirements have been met) to protect your income if you are unable to work due to your own medical condition. After a 14 calendar day waiting period and all accrued sick days are exhausted, Standard Insurance will pay a base benefit of 70% of your salary.

Colorado FAMLI (Famliy and Medical Leave Insurance)

Per the Colorado FAMLI website: Colorado voters approved Proposition 118 in November of 2020, paving the way for a state-run Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. The FAMLI program will ensure all Colorado workers have access to paid leave in order to take care of themselves or their family during life circumstances that pull them away from their jobs — like growing their family or taking care of a loved one with a serious health condition. The program is a social insurance, and the State pays your employee (the claimant) a portion of their weekly wages directly through a debit card or direct deposit. DCSD opted out of FAMLI.  If you choose to use FAMLI you will need to register with FAMLI and pay the required premiums as a self-employed individual.

For information on how to apply for this leave please go to  Colorado FAMLI Information. This is through the State of Colorado and not DCSD.

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016.
