Incoming Freshman

Dear, Sabercat and Family:

Let me start by thanking you, from the bottom of my heart,  for choosing Castle View.  It’s not lost on me how big that decision was.  In these next four years, you will have the chance to solidify your values, develop your courage, find your voice, and prepare to chase your dreams.  We take seriously the responsibility to craft extraordinary experiences that support you in doing just that.

My best advice to you, as you start your life as a high schooler,  is to get involved. There’s a significant research base that proves how important it is for you to find your tribe here.  Join a team, a club, an organization.  Go to games and concerts and shows and cheer on your friends.   The connections you forge in these communities will inspire you in your best moments and carry you through your hardest.

I also want you to know how incredible this place is.  In the time I've spent getting to know this community, I am genuinely struck by how much it feels like a family-- one filled with amazing people who care deeply for one another and invest in each other's success. Relationships are at the heart of what makes CVHS such an incredible place to work and learn. The staff is talented, professional, and passionate about creating an extraordinary high school experience that meets our students' boundless potential and fostering a community where each of us finds places to belong and explore and achieve and build our future.

Just to give you a sense of who I am, I have two great loves - my family and Castle View High School. Before my life as a Sabercat, I served as a middle school principal on the western slope and Jefferson County, a district leader in Mesa County and Aurora, and a high school English, Show Choir, and Service Learning teacher / Cross Country, Track and Speech & Debate coach. My first career was in musical theatre, and I still sometimes get the chance to sing with the Grand Junction Rockestra (a symphony orchestra that plays rock music). All of that said, my most important roles are wife to my wonderful husband (who is also a high school administrator); mom to two incredible kids (who are both in high school), dog-mom to a very energetic goldendoodle, and lead learner at this exceptional school.

Please know that I mean it when I say my door is always open. I can't wait to get to know you,  to cheer you on, and to hear what you hope for and what you worry about. We have such rich traditions at CV that we can build upon, and we know that to be the best school we can be, we have to partner with and listen deeply to you. I so look forward to lots of opportunities to do that.

In closing, thank you for choosing us; it is our honor to serve you.
